Book review: Living it up southern style

Paula Deen has published a cook book.
Paula Deen has parlayed a love and talent for Southern cooking into food-related empire. Born in Albany, Georgia, Deen moved to Savannah in 1989 where she began a catering business. She created the food and sons Bobbie and Jamie delivered it. The catering business was big success and in 1996 she opened a restaurant, the now famous The Lady and Sons, in downtown Savannah. Most patrons choose the buffet which includes Southern-fried chicken, cheesy meatloaf, greens, sweet potatoes, creamed corn and much more.
The country discovered Paula Deen when she began appearing on the Food Network in 1999 which lead to her own show, Paula’s Home Cooking. She has won two daytime Emmy awards for her TV show, publishes a lifestyle magazine, Cooking with Paula, and has even delved into acting, appearing as Kursten Dunst’ aunt in the movie Elizabethtown.
Paula’s latest book, Paula Deen and Friends—Living It up Southern Style, features recipes that bring people together for parties and gatherings of friends and family. You may order a copy of Paula Deen and Friends through our website at www.georgiamonthly.com /books.html.
